Chapter 7 is generally the quickest (last about 4 months) and least expensive form of consumer bankruptcy. It is also known as a bankruptcy liquidation, although most cases are considered “no asset” after applying allowed exemptions.
Also known as a repayment plan. Chapter 13’s last from 3 to 5 years. Some people are not allowed to file Chapter 7 because their income is too high, in which case Chapter 13 can be considered. Chapter 13 also has special powers to strip or modify liens if the circumstances permit.
